CRCF recognition phase

How certification works

From project registration to credit issuance, everything happens on the platform. No manual document exchange.

For project developers

From project to credits in 4 steps

Each step is documented, verified by an ISO 17065 accredited VVB and publicly registered. Five-yearly main cycle, with annual monitoring verifications in between.

01. Registration
Upload and validate the project
Location, surface, reference methodology and technical documentation on the platform. Followed by a pre-audit validation phase.
  • Automated completeness checks
  • Reforestation and afforestation, carbon farming, olive cultivation, blue carbon, removal tech
  • Compliance with Reg. EU 2024/3012 verified
02. Audit
Independent verification
Climate Standard assigns an ISO 17065 accredited VVB and handles payment, separating who funds verification from who benefits from it.
  • VVB paid by CS, not by the developer
  • No manual document exchange
  • Public, downloadable verification report
03. Issuance
Certified credits
Each credit receives a unique code with methodology, source project, verification date and VVB. Public traceability from issuance to retirement.
  • Unique code for every credit
  • Public registry: every transaction visible
  • Double counting impossible
04. Monitoring
Monitoring verification
Annual monitoring verification to generate new credits. Full renewal every 5 years with a VVB. Project history kept on the platform.
  • Annual verification on the platform
  • Full recertification every 5 years
  • Complete history preserved

Platform

Everything happens on the platform, not over email

Traditional registries manage the audit via manual document exchange: emails, PDFs, paper reviews. This stretches timelines and inflates costs.

Climate Standard manages the entire cycle on the platform: from onboarding to the five-yearly recertification. The process is faster and structurally less expensive.

Onboarding
Documentation upload and automated completeness check before VVB assignment.
Initial certification
Audit conducted on the platform. Evidence, comments and VVB decisions recorded and traceable.
Annual audits
Monitoring data uploaded annually. Verification managed on the platform.
Five-year recertification
Full renewal every 5 years. The project's history streamlines every subsequent cycle.
For corporate buyers

Verified credits for CSRD and Carbon Neutrality

Companies with CSRD obligations or Carbon Neutrality targets need credits certified by schemes recognised by the European Commission.

CSRD reporting
Credits certified by schemes recognised by the European Commission can be reported under ESRS E1-7, separately from direct emission reductions.
Carbon Neutrality ISO 14068-1
CRCF certified credits can support Carbon Neutrality claims under ISO 14068-1. The standard requires verification by independent third parties.
Independent due diligence
Climate Standard doesn't develop projects and doesn't sell credits. Every credit is verified by an independent VVB paid by CS, not by the seller.

Governance

Independent oversight structure

Climate Standard's independence is reflected in its governance: an external oversight body and VVBs selected on accreditation, not commercial relationships.

Oversight body
Climate Standard is defining the composition of its independent oversight body. Its role is to supervise methodology compliance, audit correctness and registry integrity.
Being appointed
Verification and Validation Bodies (VVB)
Assigned VVBs must be ISO 17065 accredited by Accredia or an equivalent body. Payment is handled by Climate Standard to guarantee verification independence.
